The first word, 和語 (composed of the Kanji 和 - Harmony/Japan and 語 - Language ) is pronounced wago, it is an ancient way to say the Japanese language. The second word, 旅 means travel and is pronounced tabi. Altogether 和語旅 (Wagotabi) describes a journey through the Japanese language.

How many people are working on this project?

We are a small indie team of passionate learners and creators. This is our dream project and we are currently 4 people working on our free time on this project.

When will the game be available?

The soft launch has already started on mobile! See the latest list of available countries and download links here: https://www.wagotabi.com/#h.8d1kverl4wm9. New countries will be added step by step until the worldwide mobile launch. The Steam launch will follow shortly after.

Have you used Japanese textbooks to make the word lists?

We have crossed all major Japanese textbook contents and extracted the essential concepts to include for a beginner starting from zero. These words are introduced in a way that fits the RPG development and every concept is used almost right away and reused as the game progresses.

Did you work with Japanese teachers / Japanese natives?

Over 250 teachers (half of them native Japanese speakers) have tested the game and gave us feedback on its contents. This helped us improve the concept step by step. Some teaches already use the app in their classes to illustrate some situations and provide interactions to their students. A lot of these teachers also suggested the game to their students.

Does this game have higher level content?

This game currently includes around 130 words and grammatical concepts in the first Japanese prefecture. More content will be added gradually as more prefectures are added.

Do I need internet to use the game?

The game can be used offline, internet is not needed for any purpose in the game other than giving us an in-game feedback or leaderboards.

When is the official release? When will the game be fully completed?

No specific date has been decided for the moment. When the first prefecture (Kagawa) is fully developed the game will start releasing officially in a couple countries until it is released worldwide. Content will then be added step by step as we have been doing until now.

Will I be able to learn another language than Japanese with this game?

We are developing this game specifically focusing on Japanese language learning. Since we aim for maximal immersion, we decided to focus only on Japan and can thus provide an unprecedented level of linguistic, cultural and geographical immersion.

Can I live stream / post playthroughs of Wagotabi on my channel?

Absolutely! But keep in mind you should always add a link to our website "https://www.wagotabi.com" in the description of your content.

How can I save my progress?

The game progress is saved automatically, no action is needed.

On which devices can I use this game? Will the game release on PC?

This game was designed for smartphone and is fully compatible with iOS and Android devices. We also plan to release on PC and Mac later.

The background is all black on my screen, how to solve this?

This happens on some devices. To avoid it go to the Player Menu and disable "Light effects" in the settings.

Why don't I hear sound?

On iOS, to hear the game sound please toggle the Ring/Silent switch of your phone.
